Philly jazz singer Melody Gardot is returning home to play the Merriam Theater on October 9th. Gardot is touring in support of her latest release, Currency of Man, the New Jersey native’s fourth LP, which shot up the charts to debut at number 1 on the U.S., Canadian, and Australian Jazz charts. Calling upon retro-soul and classically-based arrangements, the sounds of the 60’s and 70’s can be found throughout Gardot’s music. It’s no wonder why she’s been compared to greats of the genre such as Judy Garland and Edith Piaf.

With her latest album, Gardot steps into a whole new sound of her own, and it’s her strongest release yet. The album was released back on June 2nd, and you can check it out on Spotify or iTunes. Tickets for the October 9th show at the Merriam Theater go on sale Friday, July 24th here. Until then, give a listen to the epic “Preacherman”, the second track off Currency of Man.
