XPNFest Recap: Field Report delivers ambiance to the early crowd
Chris Porterfield is no stranger to new territories. His Milwalkee-based project Field Report (a anagram of his own name) hails from the Midwest, but the band’s sound found a spot right at home here at Wiggins Park for XPNFest. Just the third act of the day, the band brought a blend of rootsy folk with some of the most intriguing percussion seen yet at XPNFest.
Opening with the title track to their sophomore effort Marigolden, the group kicked things off with a unique, ambient sound. The response was intrigue mixed with excitement, and the litany of instruments and shakers employed by percussionist Shane Leonard help create Field Report’s unique sound. The band continued with tracks off Marigolden, slowly building momentum towards the back end of the set. “Cups and Cups” set the mood before the band finished with the track XPN-ers know them by, “Home (Leave the Lights On)”, which prompted a gentle, yet communal, sing-along.
Stay tuned! Were just hitting the thick of it on Day 2 here at Xponential!
