The White House just joined Spotify and the President’s playlist is pretty much XPN
Here’s a fun bit of afternoon music news care of none other than the White House: the President has joined Spotify, and has posted his first two government-approved playlists – one themed around summer days, one themed around summer nights.
We heard about it from XPN faves Low Cut Connie who, side note, totally crushed it in their World Cafe showcase at the Philadelphia Folk Festival last night. Their rowdy rocker “Boozophilia” is on the “Day” playlist. (Way to go, dudes!)
Looking over the rest of the playlist, though, it features a ton of artists that are regular fixtures in the XPN playlist. Not to be overly self-congratulatory about it, of course. But I mean: Lianne La Havas, Brandi Carlile, The Lumineers, Florence and the Machine, Okkervil River, John Legend, Coldplay…not to mention heritage artists like Joni Mitchell, Leonard Cohen, The Temptations, The Rolling Stones, Bob Dylan, Stevie Wonder, Sly and the Family Stone and more.
There’s so much XPN Music on President Obama’s playlist that we should make him an honorary sustaining member! At the very least, we know that his tastes are simpatico with our programming, and should the president choose to relocate to Philly when his term is over, he should know that there’s a radio station here he’d probably dig.
