Listen to Ghost Light’s long-lost ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ EP
Philly four-piece Ghost Light came from a very specific time and a place – West Philly, three to four years ago – and like so many great things in music and culture and life, that time and place is now behind us. Front dude Barrett Lindgren moved on to his current gig as a show promoter at Johnny Brenda’s; bassist and singer Candice Martello is doing pretty well for herself in Hemming right now; the house show landscape they cut their teeth in is vastly different.
But absent the band itself, the music survives, and if you ever saw Ghost LIght live back in the day, you know it was was electric and ecstatic, a spazzy psych / punk / indierock force of nature that with bits and pieces that reminded me of Sonic Youth, Yo La Tengo, Appleseed Cast, early Minus the Bear, I could go on and on. Suffice it to say they were a damn good band. Lindgren recently unearthed their final recordings that never got a proper release and posted them to Bandcamp as an EP with the funny / self-depricating title ¯\_(ツ)_/¯. Give it a listen below.
