Folkadelphia Session: Joan Shelley
At the time of writing this post and airing this session, we’re on the verge of receiving one of the best record of 2015. It’s subtle, wholly beautiful, and a work of art in playing and songwriting. Soon we’ll have Joan Shelley‘s Over and Even to add to whatever “best of lists” you’re concocting (NPR has caught on and is streaming it in advance).
In honor of the release, we present our latest Folkadelphia Session, recorded at the WXPN Studio with Joan Shelley, Nathan Salsburg, and Glen Dentinger. To this day, I’m surprised at how powerful and emotional a performance can be when the musicians have that certain chemistry. Rare to find, but clear when beheld. This trio has it and they take the songs of Over and Even to an even more enjoyable and wonderful place.
You have the chance to see it all live in Philadelphia this Sunday, September 6th at World Cafe Live when Folkadelphia presents Joan Shelley and acclaimed local harpist Mary Lattimore (who we’ve feature on the show a number of occasions). Make sure to add that to your weekend agenda!
