Ruby the Hatchet | from the “Vast Acid” video
Watch Ruby The Hatchet pay homage to Evil Dead in the “Vast Acid” video
It shouldn’t come as a huge surprise that heavy psychedelic Philadelphians Ruby the Hatchet are big horror movie buffs. The albums are loud and ominous, their visual aesthetic doom-y. Earlier this summer, the band posted a funny / unsettling video on Instagram of frontwoman Jillian Taylor getting a bucket of fake blood dumped all over her, a teaser for their “Vast Acid” music video. This week, that snippet was put into context, and it it makes total sense not; the band loves Sam Raimi’s The Evil Dead (but who doesn’t love that demented masterpiece?) and the video for their latest single from this year’s badass Valley of The Snake is done in homage to the cult favorite.
The video – which follows the band on an ill-fated trip to a remote cabin in the woods – premiered Thursday via Bloody Disgusting, where the band said “This movie has infiltrated our brains to the writing process and is actually the main inspiration for this song. All hail Evil Dead and the almighty Bruce Campbell.”
Check it out below, and catch Ruby the Hatchet tomorrow night when their tour with Uncle Acid and the Deadbeats rolls through Philly to stop at Union Transfer. Tickets and more information on the show can be found at the XPN Concert Calendar.
