Stream Kurt Vile’s new album, b’lieve i’m goin down
It’s like Philly’s Kurt Vile went and reflectively distilled his past decade-plus of making music into a single, fantastic record. The new b’lieve i’m goin down is out this Friday on Matador Records, and it showcases the many sides of the indie rock troubadour from Lansdowne: we hear Kurt the constant hitmaker on “Pretty Pimpin’,” a total jammer and possibly his best single to date. There’s Kurt the expansive impressionist of Wakin on a Pretty Daze on “That’s Life, tho (almost hate to say)” and Kurt the spectral songsmith of Childish Prodigy on “Kidding Around.” The pop-oriented Tom Petty devotee shows up on “Dust Bunnies,” and throughout the record we get Kurt the idiosyncratic lyricist.
In short, if you wanted a single record to explain what the multifaceted Vile was all about, b’lieve i’m goin down is it, and you can get an advance listen to it below care of the good folks at Matador. Vile headlines a sold-out hometown show at Union Transfer on Friday, October 9th, though we have a feeling he’ll be back again before too long.
