Indie-pop band MisterWives played The Fillmore on Wednesday night, bringing their dynamic Scrapbook Tour performance to Philadelphia. After much anticipation, the crowd went crazy as the band made their entrance on stage. Touring in support of this year’s debut studio album, Our Own House, MisterWives already has an intensely strong following and it’s easy to see why.

Lead singer Mandy Lee’s energetic delivery of the group’s catchy songs and her strong, uplifting interaction with the audience was impressive. Throughout the set, she shared stories, danced around the stage, and encouraged the crowd to dance and sing along.

Later on, Lee gave a passionate speech about gender equality while doing push-ups as an intro to their song “Not Your Way.” The group closed out the set with a lively performance of “Our Own House.” During the song, all six band members played drums in unison for a captivating and intense drum break. The crowd couldn’t get enough and cheered for the encore set. Once MisterWives returned to the stage, they broke out a highly danceable cover of Whitney Houston’s “I Wanna Dance With Somebody.” Midway through the song, Lee invited a star-struck fan on stage to dance with her. Following was an entertaining dance-off between her bandmates. The group encouraged everyone to sing and dance their hearts out as they wrapped up the night with “Imagination Infatuation.” Overall, MisterWives brought it with a solid performance with a feel-good vibe.

Opening the show was local indie-pop band Cruisr with an upbeat set. Between songs, frontman Andy States interacted with the crowd and shared stories about being from Philadelphia. As the four-piece group rocked an awesome set of their instantly catchy music, Cruisr likely gained some new fans in addition to their already loyal following.

Next up was San Francisco based alternative band Waters. Touring in support of their sophomore release What’s Real, Waters brought a wild performance to their fast-paced songs. Throughout the set, keyboardist Sara DeMert tossed out flowers into the crowd as lead singer Van Pierszalowski revved up the crowd. A mentionable cover was their performance of Miley Cyrus’ “Wrecking Ball,” where Pierszalowski conducted the crowd to sing the chorus when they were lit up by the house lights. Towards the end of their set, the band invited MisterWives’ Mike Murphy on saxophone and Jesse Blum on trumpet to play with them. The energy that Waters brought to the room got the crowd even more hyped up for MisterWives.
