From NAH’s “Want Part 1” video

NAH is the globally-renowned, ever-intriguing project of Philly experimental percussionist and rapper Michael Kuhn. He’s done everything from abrasive noise to ambient, and earlier this year dropped the tense and nervy Light as Fuck EP on Bandcamp. Everything he does is kind of coolly handled, not trumpeted in a big production – he’s clearly not one who is into self-aggrandizing self-promotion, he seems content rather to put stuff out there and let the fans find it. As the folks at Radio Static did with his new music video for “Want  Part 1.”

Released last night, the video sees Kuhn in a basement bathed in multicolored lights, howling the opening track from Light, each line coupling a misanthropic wish with apathy (“I could make you sick if you wanted to…” etc.). It’s very Pissed Jeans-meets-Suicide, and we’re all the way to the end of the video before hearing applause and realizing that this was done at a basement show. Kuhn’s reaction is pretty great; check it out below.
