We’ve been following the Philly duo Kississippi for a while now as they lead up to the release of their first EP on Soft Speak Records, We Have No Future, We’re All Doomed. If you didn’t catch it last week, the album is now streaming in full over at Brooklyn Vegan.

From the ethereal opening guitar chords of “Unkempt Leather,” it’s clear the lo-fi aesthetic of the group’s 2014 release, I Can Feel You In My Hair Still, is gone, but it’s been replaced with the gorgeous sounds of lush, layered guitars that create a a silky foundation from which Zoe Allaire Reynolds’ voice can take flight. Not a bad trade, if  you ask me.

The track “Dogmas” is the perfect example of this change. The only song to appear both on the 2014 and 2015 EPs, its transformation is astounding. What began as a charmingly sparse acoustic tune sung by Reynolds  in 2014 has been fleshed out into an immersive and addictive track. In the new version, the acoustic guitars are gone – in their place we’re treated to a wonderfully hypnotic electric guitar riff that demands attention plunges us deep into Kississippi’s dreamy world.

You can stream We Have No Future, We’re All Doomed via Brooklyn Vegan. You can also catch Kississippi in person on December 12th at Johnny Brenda’s. Head over to the XPN Concert Calendar for ticket info.
