Listen to “Copper Mine” by Mothers, see them at Communion Philly
If you’re a fan of the raw rock and roll grit of Houndmouth, Alabama Shakes, Those Darlins’ and The Districts, you gots to hear emerging Athens, Georgia four-piece Mothers. The band is getting to release their debut LP When You Walk A Long Distance, You Are Tired on February 26th via Grand Jury Music, and this week the band released “Copper Mine,” the first single from the album.
The song sways at a breezy midtempo pace, but oh, does it have teeth. Kristine Leschper is a dynamic frontwoman, a vocalist / guitarist who snarls and sways as the song kicks into double time and races across four minutes to an explosive finale.
The band is playing the first installment of Communion Philly at MilkBoy on February 4th, and I’m stoked. Well, of course I’m stoked ’cause I always DJ between sets at Communion Philly. But even if I wasn’t, I’d be right there to see this set. The rest of the linuep is ace too, with Philly rock and rollers Thee Idea Men, soulful Brooklyn-via-Tennessee singer LOLO and soulful popster Allan Rayman. Tickets and more information can be found at the XPN Concert Calendar.
