Purples get ghostly in “Small Sister (Work of Art)”
Philly indie rockers Purples are back with their latest free single – a hammering and haunting track called “Small Sister (Work of Art),” and it’s got the band’s trademark of jangling pop hooks, funky guitar licks, and airy keyboards.
This time, there seems to be a bit of a Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark element, as the lyrics are – near as I can figure – a story about a spectral visit from a deceased sibling: “I’ve got a small sister meaner than sin / and she sticks with me until the bitter end / I’ve got her back again.” Or maybe it’s just Peter MoDavis’ ghost howls in the opening seconds.
Check out the song below, download it for free at Bandcamp and see Purples at Johnny Brenda’s on March 11 with Up the Chain and Hezekiah Jones. More information on the show can be found at the XPN Concert Calendar.
