Impeccable guitarist Brian John McBrearty to perform the Art Dept. gallery on February 26th
There’s an effortless quality to the way Brian John McBrearty plays the guitar. Notes roll of his fingertips, falling into perfectly crafted, beautifully tranquil melodies. McBrearty’s technical prowess is no surprise — the Philly native studied jazz at the prestigious New York University. But ironically enough, on his 2015 debut acoustic album, Things I Recall, jazz is conspicuously absent. Instead, McBrearty explores more contemporary sounds, coaxing a range of textures out of his instrument, from delicate folk finger-picking to reverberating ambient sound waves.
McBrearty will be playing in concert on February 26th at the Art Dept., a gallery in Fishtown. The show is being put on by NOREMIXES, a record label that brands itself as an “outlet for writers, artists and producers with a focus on synth music, electro-acoustic, ambient and modern classical styles.” Also performing will be Starkey, the label’s founder, and abstract electro composer ghostinthehills (Kevin McTague). The show begins with McBrearty’s set at 7 p.m.
