Underground Arts to host Kathapalooza, a benefit concert for Kathleen Mullaney and her fight with cancer
Last year, Kathleen Mullaney was having dinner with friends on Easter when she felt a sharp pain in her back. She went to the doctor. They ran tests. Then came the harrowing news: she had late-stage breast cancer.
On Saturday night, Underground Arts will host Kathapalooza, a benefit concert in support of Mullaney, who was a prominent figure in the Philly punk scene in the late 1990s as the lead singer and guitarist of the all-female band Grubby.
An eclectic collection of bands, both old and new, will be performing at the concert. From hard-rockers Stepping Razor and Zonic Shockum, both active in the 1990s and favorites of Mullaney, to synth and disco inspired Weird Hot, formed in 2011, the groups span a range of generations and musical influences. The full lineup will include Creem Circus, Stepping Razor, Photon Band, Weird Hot, Zonic Shockum, and Suffacox (mach2).
For $20 contribution, you can hear the six local bands, some of whom will be reuniting for the first time in over twenty years. Listen to a track from each group below. You can grab tickets to the 21+ show over at the XPN Concert Calendar.
