Fishtown hotspot The Barbary – a space known for its raging dance parties like Tigerbeats and Space Jams, as well as its all-ages punk matinees – is going up for sale.

The Inquirer‘s Michael Klein reported this afternoon that the venue owner put it on the market in response to heavy development around its neck of Frankford Avenue – not the least of which is The Fillmore, the 2500 capacity Live Nation venue that opened in October.

Owner John Redden told Klein, “This is not the wild west out here anymore. A place like The Barbary always thrived by being off the beaten path.”

Redden told the Inquirer that the all-inclusive asking price for the entire building and its facilities and licenses, is $2.2 million.

It will reportedly remain open for parties and events until a sale is negotiated, at which point there will be “a proper Barbary send-off.” For more, head over to Philly.com.
