Sturgill Simpson releases video for “Brace For Impact (Live A Little)” from upcoming A Sailor’s Guide To Earth
Country mind-eraser Sturgill Simpson continues to stun with his old-school outlaw rock and roll, from 2014’s terrific Metamodern Sounds In Country Music to contributing the song “Sugar Daddy” to HBO’s Vinyl. His new album A Sailor’s Guide To Earth is out this April, and this week he shared the video for it’s lead single “Brace For Impact (Live A Little).”
The Kentucky-born Simpson was brought into the national light with MetaModern Sounds, and he has continued to expanded that sound with “Brace For Impact”, a hard-edged blues rocker with droning synths. It’s a steady jam with flourishes of revivalist country, psychedelia, and even some electronica.
The accompanying video portrays Simpson playing guitar in the dark while psychedelic imagery dances around him. He invites you down the rabbit hole, then asks you to help him skin the rabbit for supper.
A Sailor’s Guide To Earth (which also contains a cover of Nirvana’s “In Bloom”) is out April 15th on Atlantic. Watch Sturgill Simpson’s video for “Brace For Impact (Live A Little)” below.
