Jo Kusy provides a Sunday afternoon soundtrack with Wild Violets
When we caught up with local guy Jo Kusy this week about an album he released in February called You Break Me, he told us about even newer record he just completed called Wild Violets. The cassette will be out in a few days via Time Castle Records, complete with violet-scented paper and a release show at Beautiful World Syndicate on Sunday, April 3rd.
Where You Break Me is a collection of songs that samples a range of rock oriented influences, Wild Violets is a cohesive project wrapped in warm acoustic psychedelic tones. An appropriate reference track would be Donovan’s “Ferris Wheel” – the album shares the feeling of a gentle, sun-dappled breeze coming through the window with that 1966 classic.
In a video for “Scent of Pine,” Kusy strums absentmindedly on his guitar as he considers the trees and stream next to him. Pastel balloons catch some glow from a setting sun, and their slow-motion movements feel like a brief memory of a dream.
