On April 23 and 24, Lela Aisha Jones and her dance project FlyGround will be performing a two-part modern dance series titled Native Portals at the International House in University City. Much of Jones’ work focuses on the intersection between dance and activism.

Jones will be joined by a team of fellow dancers for the two performances. On April 23, the group will perform an excerpt of Jones’ piece Lynching and Love, which interprets the performance artists’ first exposure to lynching. The following night, Jones will premiere her newest work, Release Mourning Clearing. Along with the original choreography, both movement performances will be accompanied by live music.

Listen to Jones explain the vision of her work below. Tickets to the performances can be found here.
