Gliss re-emerges with a boom-bap banger “Intentions” and a 420 jam
Philly rapper Gliss has been teasing the release of his full-length project High on a Weekday for literal years at this point – so much so that we’re pretty sure he still went by Young Gliss when we first started hearing about it, and then the “young” got dropped along the way. (Sike.)
In all seriousness, though, this dude has always been a charismatic rapper and performer, his set at the 2013 Welcome American Festival still being a standout in my memory, so it’s great to hear him herald the opening of his latest single, “Intentions,” by declaring “I’m back on my shit again.”
Indeed, the track sounds sweet – paired with producer SoleDad Brother, Gliss spits over a fierce boom-bap beat and jazzy, textural instrumental arrangements. “It ain’t about the money, it’s more about the clout / I’m just tryana make it out, I’m just tryana make it out,” Gliss raps, and it’s a taut and promising two minutes and 40.
Gliss tells us that Weekday will indeed be released this year, along with a second project named Seven, and various teaser bits of audio and video as well. With all that in the works, he estimates he’ll have new music for our earbuds every two weeks – and I for one am totally looking forward to it.
Listen to “Intentions” below.
Gliss also dropped a video for “On The Highway” (get it?) for today’s holiday of altered consciousness. Watch below.
