Philly’s Cynthia Schemmer debuts her new project Swanning; listen to a song
Philly singer, guitarist and songwriter Cynthia Ann Schemmer – who has performed for the past couple years with Radiator Hospital and Heavy Bangs – just premiered the first song from her solo project, Swanning, which is titled “Sleep My Pretties.”
Schemmer’s first album as Swanning, Drawing Down The Moon will be out May 27th on Salinas Records. “Sleep My Pretties” maintains the indie rock vibe of her other bands while trading in the lo-fi aesthetic for a more polished yet crunchier production style. Schemmer told Impose Magazine:
With “Sleep My Pretties” I truly let myself feel anger. I wanted to give myself an unadulterated space to flow with it. The song addresses the people in my life who have hurt me—physically and emotionally. It took me years to come to terms with pain and to confront the people who repeatedly injected it into my life. It’s about stripping the power away from those who have wielded it over me, mentally or physically, and not letting them off easy. It’s about taking back your life.
Swanning performs in Philly at The Waiting Room on May 27th with Dark Thoughts and Empath. Listen to “Sleep My Pretties” below.
