Pink Slip Daddy paying tribute to Fabian and other rock things at Boot & Saddle on May 28th
If you happened to be following the Philly music scene in the late 80s/early 90s, then you probably remember Pink Slip Daddy. The original group, consisting of Mick Cancer, Sal Mineo’s Only Son, Palmyra Delran, Barb Dwyer, and producer Ben Vaughn, were a local favorite, rocking the Philly musical landscape with their mix of chaotic psychedelic garage rock and punk.
In 2013 the band played their first show in Philly in 20 years, and are returning to town to play a show at Boot & Saddle on Saturday, May 28th. The occasion is the release of a new EP, a tribute to Philly teen idol and late 50s-early 60s rock and roller Fabiano Anthony Forte – known to most fans as Fabian. Viva Fabian & More is a six song collection including covers of Fabian classics like “Turn Me Loose,” “Gotta Tell Somebody, and “Wild Party,” produced by Ben Vaughn.
Go to the XPN Concert Calendar for tickets and more information about the show. Opening for Pink Slip Daddy are an all-girl group from Memphis, Tennessee, The Klitz, whose local Memphis notoriety as that city’s first punk band, recorded early in their career with Alex Chilton and Sam The Sham.
