NonCOMM Recap: The Zombies rekindle old flames at World Cafe Live
Long running British pop songsmiths The Zombies performed a Free at Noon set for an eager crowd today at NonCOMM. The band, active mostly during the late 60s and known for the breathless “Time of the Season” and the infectious earworm “Tell Her No,” showed the World Cafe Live crowd that they still had it and then some.
Founding members Colin Blunstone on vocals and Rod Argent on keys sounded impeccable, and rounded the lineup out with bassist Jim Rodford (Argent’s cousin) and his son Steve on drums, as well as guitarist Tom Toomey.
Last year, the current lineup released Still Got That Hunger, and today’s set mixed in songs from it – “I Want You Back Again,” “Movin On” and “Edge of the Rainbow” – with the classics, wrapping the set with their swooning 1964 single “She’s Not There,” which rekindled the flame with many a long-time fan in the audience.
