Watch Petal’s stripped down cover of “A Bitter Divorce”
Before traveling across the country with Pity Sex and PWR BTTM on tour this summer, Scranton sweetheart Petal filmed a stripped down cover of “A Bitter Divorce” by Captain We’re Sinking with her label Run For Cover Records. In the video, singer-songwriter and guitarist Kiley Lotz says she chose the song by her labelmates and Scranton locals because they’re some of her closest friends. Written by singer Bobby Barnett, Lotz says in the video, “It’s one of my favorite that he’s ever written. It’s very beautiful and sad and dynamic.”
That description certainly holds true for Petal’s unplugged version of the song as well. Sitting at a piano she plays softly and quietly, singing with a signature style that allows listeners to hear every drop of emotion in her voice. When the original song picks up the pace with an explosion of full band sound, Lotz crashes on the keys. The highly emotional track comes to an end with the line, “Well I deserve to be happy,” before the repetition of “I am dead again” echoing out until the end.
Catch Petal on tour this summer with Pity Sex and PWR BTTM when they make their stop in Philly at Union Transfer on Sunday, June 12th. For tickets and more information, check out the XPN Concert Calendar and watch the video of Kiley performing “A Bitter Divorce” below.
