Today’s #TBTXPN Throwback Thursday theme showcases the golden era of new wave music. Talking Heads emerged out of the New York music scene in the mid-70s and hit their musical peak in the late 70s and 80s with a string of now classic albums including Talking Heads: 77, Fear Of Music, More Songs About Buildings and Food, Remain In Light, and Speaking In Tongues. In 1981, bassist Tina Weymouth and drummer Chris Frantz released their self-titled debut. The married couple continue to perform today and last released Downtown Rockers in 2012.

Back in May, 2013, Chris Frantz and Tina Weymouth – the Tom Tom Club – performed at WXPN’s Non-Commvention. Touring in support of their album Downtown Rockers, the band played a handful of song from the album, as well as their new wave hits “Genius of Love,” and “Wordy Rappinghood.”
