Wow … talk about a busy week for new music. As I write this we just got a new song from Gary Clark Jr, and yes I’ll play it tonight!  We’ll also have a listen to a bunch of albums coming this fall from Dawes, Bon Iver, Billy Bragg & Joe Henry, Mike Doughty and more.  And here’s a little sample of what else we’ve got lined up for you tonight on our New Music Show …

“Only A River” by BOB WEIR

It’s been a long time, decades in fact, since we’ve had a new solo album of original material from Bob Weir. With a little help from members of The National and some co-writing with XPN fav Josh Ritter, Bob is going to release Blue Mountain at the end of September.  Here’s a listen to one of the songs he collaborated on with Josh called “Only A River”

“East Coast Girl” by BUTCH WALKER

Ok, so one of my not-so-guilty pleasures from the late 90s comes from the band Marvelous 3. They had a minor hit with a perfectly crafted, alternative rock tune called “Freak of the Week”.  Well, Butch Walker was the frontman of that band.  Butch is as versatile as they come in terms of a writer and producer.  He’s released some solid solo records since his Marvelous 3 days, and has also produced for other folks like Pete Yorn, Frank Turner and Brian Fallon.  His new album Stay Gold comes out this Friday, and he’ll be here for Free at Noon too.  He preview the new album and this tune “East Coast Girl” on the show tonight.

First Impression Artist: HOOPS

Sometimes it’s not always easy to pinpoint exactly what you love about a certain band or a particular song. I guess that’s what some people refer to as the “it” factor.  I’m just going to call this the “cool” factor because the band Hoops have that for sure.  The music on their new self-titled EP is the equivalent of jumping into a pool on a 100 degree day.  It’s cool, it’s soothing, and it’s refreshing.  We’ll feature the Bloomington, Indiana band tonight as our First Impression artist and hear a couple songs from their new EP which comes out this Friday.
