Kwasi Ohene-Ayeh fosters community with The Village Open Mic series
Beginning Thursday, September 29th, Ghanaian artist Kwasi Ohene-Ayeh will continue his monthly open-mic series in Ile Ife Park. The series comes as part of his SPACES residency at the Village of Arts and Humanities, an organization dedicated to amplifying the voices of young artists in North Philadelphia communities. Combining music, dance, and poetry, the event will also include featured performers EmyneYA and The Means, as well as food & drink from local chefs.
In addition to the open mic, the SPACES residency will also host open studio time from 2-5pm on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, where Kwasi and his team of neighborhood artists will welcome creatives from around the city to converse and collaborate. Speaking on the need for creative spaces like The Village, Kwasi had this to say:
“My collaborative project at the Village explores community through monthly open mic events, film screenings, and artist talks; this process of building relationships and creating spaces for collaboration is the core of the work itself.”
