PREMIERE: Cave People returns with “Hands,” the first single from Sinning Tree
After making its debut back in 2014 with the EP Older, Philadelphia indie rock outfit Cave People returns this month with its first full length record, Sinning Tree. It comes out October 28th on Stereophonodon Records, the local tape label that has also released music by lowercase roses, Hurry and more.
Cave People is very much a family affair — a group of artists and friends with roots in Northeast Pennsylvania who made their way to Philly over the years to make music. Joining frontperson / songwriter / guitarist Dave Tomaine on this record are Russell Edling of Cherry and formerly Kite Party (bass, keyboards, slide guitar) and Ben Walsh of Tigers Jaw (percussion). The record was produced by Matt Schimelfenig of Three Man Cannon.
Tomaine tells us that Sinning Tree explores themes of wanting, desire, responsibility, despondency, and human connection. Below, you can check out the first single, “Hands” — it’s a lush, jangling jam dressed up in classic Britpop-style arrangements and fuzzed-out guitars.
Sinning Tree will be available on Stereophonodon via a run of 100 cassettes with screen printed packaging and a risograph booklets. You can pre-order your copy here. The band plays PhilaMOCA on release day for Hurry’s Halloween Spectacular with Hurry, Cherry, and Eric Slick. Tickets and more information on the show can be found at the XPN Concert Calendar.
