Last Thursday, October 6th, WXPN Mid-day host Helen Leicht was honored by LiveConnections for her 40 years in radio broadcasting in Philadelphia at World Cafe Live. Leicht created the Breakfast With The Beatles show at WIOQ in the 1970s, and worked there (and at WMMR) before becoming mid-day host at WXPN and host of XPN Local.

LiveConnections created its Connector Award to recognize individuals who share its vision to build bridges, create collaborations and fuel innovation through the power of relationships. LiveConnections creates music education programs that inspire learning and build community through collaborative music-making. In 2008, a group of artists, educators and entrepreneurs founded LiveConnections to address declining music education in Philly schools. We are a nonprofit organization in residence at World Cafe Live.

Each year, LiveConnections brings more than 5,000 students from city schools to World Cafe Live for their Bridge Sessions, interactive educational programs blending live performances with hands-on activities, and introducing students to diverse musical cultures. LiveConnections also offers several in-school and after-school residencies at partner schools, providing sustained, in-depth music-making experiences for young people.

In the spirit of the program, Leicht received the annual Connector Award, in honor of her 40 years on the Philadelphia airwaves and her relentless dedication to connecting musicians and communities. Below, watch the tribute video that was created for the event. Congratulations, Helen!
