Sad13 gears up for Slugger and her first solo tour with “Devil in U”
Sadie Dupuis is probably best known as frontwoman of grunge-pop band Speedy Ortiz, but this fall she is is slated to release her debut solo album under the Sad13 moniker. Dupuis has been teasing music off Slugger for about a month now, and just dropped the track “Devil in U” to hold us over until the November 11th release date.
What these three teaser tracks off Slugger have in common is that they’re all seemingly playful synth-pop songs meant to convey much deeper messages. “Devil in U” preaches the importance of not making yourself small because of the irrational actions and reactions of a friend or partner. The track is carried by subtle guitar and synthetic productions that complement Dupuis’s artful usage of a vocal harmonizer. From what we have seen so far of Sad13’s work, it seems like the empowerment of people (especially women) is going to be a large part of her musical persona, making Slugger an extremely applicable name for her solo album.
Dupuis is just about to kick off her first ever tour as Sad13 on October 27th and she is playing at the PhilaMOCA two days later. Go to the WXPN Concert Calendar for tickets and information about the show. While you’re at it, check out the new track below.
