Ars Nova presents two nights of experimental exploration with Nels Cline, Nick Millevoi and more
When he’s not slinging his six-string around the world with Wilco, guitarist Nels Cline can often be found participating in one or more avant-garde music projects. The latest is a rare collaboration with Detroit/NYC drummer Gerald Cleaver and and San Francisco saxophonist Larry Ochs, which will perform for two nights at Johnny Brenda’s in December.
Joining the group for an opening set on Sunday, December 11th is local guitar master Nick Millevoi and his own Desertion Trio, featuring drummer Kevin Shea and bassist Johnny DeBlase. The name of the band comes from Millevoi’s latest effort, a collection of six compositions that draw inspiration from the deserted and forgotten corners of America.
Thursday, December 8th will see Brooklyn solo artist Noveller open the show. Sarah Lipstate has made a name for herself through the creation of expansive, cinematic soundscapes that were most recently showcased on her exquisite Fantastic Planet record.
Listen to an excerpt of Cline, Cleaver, and Ochs’ Philadelphia performance from earlier this year below, followed by clips of Millevoi and Noveller. Tickets and information for the 21+ show can be found here.
