Homeshake is smooth as ever on funky new earworm “Call Me Up”
Montréal’s Pete Sagar is back with “Call Me Up”, the first new Homeshake track since last year’s Midnight Snack. That album saw him injecting his R&B-inflected indie rock with wonky synth textures, and now, the former Mac Demarco touring guitarist has taken that sound even further.
There’s not a guitar to be found on “Call Me Up”, but the song still feels quintessentially Homeshake thanks to Sagar’s distinct vocal presence and ear for melody. Where others might approach the smooth instrumental with melodrama and overwrought passion, Sagar exudes playful energy as he sings “Anytime you wanna’ just call me up / and I’ll answer you on the phone.” It’s a sweet sentiment and the perfect companion to a crisp, new turtleneck and a roaring fire. Fresh Air is out February 3rd, 2017. You can catch Homeshake live when they take on PhilaMOCA this November 27th with DARK MTNS and Sitcom.
