Philly collective Killiam Shakespeare will perform for the unveiling of two new projects at Village of Arts and Humanities
The SPACES Artist in Residence Program at the Village of Arts and Humanities on Germantown Avenue debuts its first international artist residency this Friday, December 9th. From 6 to 10 p.m. it hosts an exhibition opening party with musical guests Killiam Shakespeare.
SPACES is debuting installations by Olanrewaju Tejuoso, an artist who hails from Nigeria, and Kwasi Ohene-Ayeh from Ghana. Keeping up their tradition of pairing artists with community members for creative collaboration, both Tejuoso and Ohene-Ayeh are working with high school students from the Fairhill-Hartranft neighborhood. In addition, Philadelphia collective Killiam Shakespeare is performing during an open mic segment at the opening. The group released their mixtape Killiam Season 1 in late August, and they are known for breaking down the boundaries of genres like hip-hop, R&B, jazz and funk.
The event is free; more information about the opening on Facebook. Check out the track “Steph Curry” off Killiam Season 1 below.
