Founded earlier this year as a forum for continued discussion surrounding women in the music industry, the inaugural Shifting the Gaze event brought together local performers, writers, show bookers, and gear manufacturers for a panel conversation at the Kelly Writers House at the start of 2016. Now the series will get its second installment in early 2017, when Los Angeles artist and activist Alice Bag visits the Penn center on January 25th for a reading and conversation.

As leader of the Bags and author of books like Violence Girl: From East LA Rage to Hollywood Stage, Bag has been a pioneering artist from the first days of punk to the current climate of feminist activism. After four decades of work, Bag released her debut solo effort just last June via Don Giovanni Records.

The event is free and open to the public, but space at the Kelly Writers House is very limited so show up early for a spot – more information can be found here. Watch “Modern Day Virgin Sacrifice” from Bag’s new record below.
