Listen to Pissed Jeans’ new song “Ignorecam”
Impossibly heavy Philadelphians Pissed Jeans release their fifth album, Why Love Now, via Sub Pop Records on February 24th. We’ve already heard “The Bar Is Low” and seen their remarkably snarky press photo. This week, we got another taste of the record with the brutal “Ignorecam.”
Between frontman Matt Korvette yowling “Ignore me, please ignore me” and the conceit of the title — which brings to mind some high-end piece of video equipment in a television studio — is the track a subconscious commentary on incessant attention rewarding despicable behavior? Or is it simply that Korvette wants to be left alone?
Maybe more the latter; SubPop says it’s a play on fetish cam shows. And how “I love that idea of guys paying to be ignored.” Or maybe, honestly, it’s a bit of both?
Whatever the case, Why Love Now seems poised to be another blend of punk rock and social commentary that Pissed Jeans do so well. The band plays Boot and Saddle on March 10 and PhilaMOCA on March 11; tickets and more info on both shows can be found at the XPN Concert Calendar.
