Synth master Suzanne Ciani will make her Philadelphia debut on March 29th and 30th at International House and the Painted Bride in conjunction with Making/Breaking the Binary: Women, Art & Technology (1968-1985). An award-winning pioneer of electronic music, Ciani’s sounds were ubiquitous throughout pop culture in the 70s and 80s, including classic Coca-Cola commercials and Meco’s Star Wars and Other Galactic Funk record.

For these performances, Ciani will share her work on the Buchla synthesizer as well as compositions for piano. A conversation with curator Kelsey Halliday Johnson will also feature a preview segment from A Life in Waves, a feature-length documentary on Ciani that is premiering at SXSW this year.

More information for the program, co-presented by International House, University of Pennsylvania Department of Music, and Ars Nova Workshop, can be found here. Watch a video of Ciani on Dave Letterman from 1980 below, as well as a trailer for A Life in Waves.
