As we wait patiently (or not) for Pageant to drop on May 12th, endearing punk duo PWR BTTM continue to share sneak peeks of their sophomore LP with a new video for “Answer My Text.” The New York band will bring the album to Philly for an all-ages show at Union Transfer on June 17th, preceded by an appearance at the 17th annual Non-COMMvention at WXPN in May.

Liv Bruce is the star of the show, lounging on a bubblegum pink bed, staring at a glittery pink flip-phone, wishing for the person on the other end of their emoji-laden text to respond. The internal stress manifests itself externally in a series of nightmarish vignettes: Liv strapped down by duct-tape, unable to reach the phone just a few feet away from them; then wrapped in a pink ruffly bubblewrap prom dress, struggling against a cobweb of shipping straps. All the while those palpitation-inducing ellipses taunt the possibility of an actual conversation as Liv laments that “maybe your heart’s on silent mode tonight.” As The Key’s Chad Snyder pointed out when we first heard “Answer My Text” a few weeks ago, it’s an “updated, de-toxed, and reclaimed” iteration of the unrequited love anthems of the 90s.
