Indie duo Girlpool is releasing their ANTI- Records debut Powerplant on May 12th, and today gave us another taste of the album with the found-footage style video for “It Gets More Blue.” The retro-styled visual finds Harmony Tividad and Cleo Tucker acting as loving companions, adventuring through beautiful coastlines, isolated fields, and off-putting mask-filled tarot card parties.

The serene nature of the video comes paired with an equally serene tune, and the drum-and-guitar arrangements elevate it from strict angsty heartache to a bigger-reaching sound. I get it, it’s not the unadorned and edgy minimalist sound we fell in love with, but you can’t deny that Girlpool is penning sharp lyrics (“You’ll build him a tower he’ll burn you a bridge”) and setting them to enjoyable, expansive arrangements. This is a new era for the LA duo, and I’m 1000% behind it.

Watch the video below, and catch the band this summer when they hit Union Transfer with Ian Sweet and Lexi; tickets/more information can be found on the XPN Concert Calendar.
