Well, friends — the day has finally arrived. Philly’s favorite punk trio has gifted your patient waiting by dropping an early online stream of their new record, New Kind of Normal, over at Hype Machine. And gosh dang, what a gift this is.

Cayetana’s new album does not disappoint in the slightest, as the record’s twelve songs weave a beautifully powerful rollercoaster narrative where the band faces adversity and personal struggle with a resilient roundhouse kick to the face.

Already hearing the beauties that are the shimmering “Mesa,”the slow-building anthem,“Certain for Miles” and the steadfastly determined, personal favorite, “Bus Ticket,” we hear new standouts, such as the up tempo, dance-worthy opening track “Am I Dead Yet?” the crunchy guitar-shredding jam, “Grumpy’s” — named for a South Philly watering hole — and the somber, atmospheric final track, “World.” This last tune closes the album with unsettling, morphed siren alarms fading in and out among Koch’s reflective vocals. Struggling between chaos and clarity, the song’s all-encompassing stripped down sounds guide listeners back into their own minds–perfectly wrapping up the theme of the record by leaving listeners to contemplate and face on their own the huge and beautiful disaster of our world.

Cayetana will be touring with fellow rockin’ trio, Camp Cope, along with Worriers, where they will grace us with their presence at the Lizard Lounge in Lancaster on July 7th. But before then, don’t miss their special release shindig at First Unitarian Church this Friday, May 5th alongside Shannen Moser,Katie Ellen, and Aster More. Find info on tickets here, jam away to New Kind of Normal below, and get ready — we’ll have a lot more Cayetana-related excitement to bring you all week long.
