Indie Rock Hit Parade Live Session: Froth
Join us for our latest Indie Rock Hit Parade Live Session is the Los Angeles band Froth. Formed in 2012 by singer/guitarist JooJoo Ashworth, Froth recently released their third full-length (and first for Wichita Recordings), Outside (briefly), in February. Joined by guitarist Nick Ventura, bassist Jeremy Katz and drummer Cameron Allen, Ashworth crafts ethereal pop songs with a ferocious wall-of-noise bite. Froth performs a selection of songs from Outside (briefly) in this session…
The set begins with “Romance Distractions,” which itself begins with a kind of fanfare before slipping into a loud-quiet-loud mix of tenderness and menace. Next is “Passing Thing,” which showcases the band’s love for roomy experimentalism. As the track progresses, the band locks into a groove that is one part Neu! and one part My Bloody Valentine. “Petals,” which just got its own music video, comes next. The song’s first third is an intimate solo performance from Ashworth, with the band filling out the arrangement like a flower in bloom. Finally, the web-exclusive “Shut The Windows” is a swirling and melodic dream.
