Philly Music Fest launches with Abi Reimold, Kississippi, Strand of Oaks, Steve Gunn and more this fall at World Cafe Live
The idea is simple, really: two nights, two stages, only Philly bands. That’s what’s in store when Philly Music Fest touches down at World Cafe Live on Friday, September 22nd and Saturday, September 23rd.
The biggest name on the first-year festival is Strand of Oaks, who will headline Saturday night on the heels of their XPoNential Music Festival slot, alongside Steve Gunn and Shannen Moser. Friday night’s bill is capped by Abi Reimold, who we hear is working on a follow up to last year’s excellent Wriggling LP, and Kississippi, who are readying their first full-length as well.
Overall, the roundup of artists is solid; smooth popsters Work Drugs alongside punk rockers Sports and the always lively New Sound Brass on Friday night, with psych rockers Pine Barons, folk duo Sea Offs, indie-emo outfit Slaughter Beach, Dog and Sixteen Jackies on Saturday night, with more bands TBA.
The festival will also showcase local food and local beer, with proceeds being collected for local charities — though we have no details as of yet about who the gig will benefit. (UPDATE: The music education non-profit LiveConnections is one of the beneficiaries.)
