Strand of Oaks has a new video for “Everything” and it’s the best kind of freaky
By now, we’re all well acquainted with the Hard Love era of Strand of Oaks. The Philly rockers led, of course, by Timothy Showalter released their fifth album back in February. Since, they’ve come through for a Free at Noon, shredded Union Transfer and shared the details of the album on World Cafe. All were great, but not much less was expected. Now it’s time to deviate from expectations.
Enter the new (and slightly unsettling) video for “Everything,” the third track off Hard Love. If you know the song, throw out every image you’ve envisioned while listening because this probably doesn’t come close. Things get weird, and not just because the video is animated — with that animation coming from another musician, Calgary-based Chad VanGaalen. In the vid, our favorite bearded frontman is illustrated into a whacky tale. He sips on some sort of toxic, parasitic beverage and his mind and body go on one trippy journey. You’ve got robotic body parts and all sorts of stuff emerging from holes nobody knew existed. Crawlers of pretty much every shape and size are the insects of the futuristic setting. It’s strange, but fun.
Warning: If you’re squeamish or have any fears of spiders or spider-like creatures, you might want to stick to rocking out to just the sounds and not the sights of this song. Otherwise, open your mind and watch the video for “Everything” below.
Strand of Oaks performs this summer at the XPoNential Music Festival. Tickets and more information can be found here.
