PREMIERE: Aspiga’s Kevin Day gets reflective in his Graduation Speech; listen to “Waiting”
We know Kevin Day, first and foremost, as the frontperson of the South Jersey pop-punk trio Aspiga — where the volume is high, the hooks are plentiful and his vocal delivery is a rip-roaring howl. But like most music consumers (and humans in general), Day doesn’t just operate on one energy level where it’s maximal blast at all times. Enter his new project Graduation Speech. It’s acoustic and toned down, melodic and sensitive, very much in the vein of The Weakerthans, Dashboard Confessional, and Chuck Ragan’s late aughts revival tour.
Graduation Speech releases its self-titled debut EP on June 30th via Black Numbers — you can grab a pre-order right here, and you can hear the opening track, “Waiting,” below. Decked out in jangling acoustic guitars and beautiful vocal harmonies, it’s a nostalgic reflection on loneliness and connection. Give it a listen, and check out the band’s tour dates in Philly and NJ.
