The Mid East Ensemble, West Philadelphia Orchestra to play Penn Museum’s Summer Nights Concert Series
It’s safe to say that Philly’s music scene is pretty kickass all year round, but man oh man, it does not mess around when it comes to music in the summertime. In addition to the stacked as heck Spruce Street Harbor Park series, the recently-announced Twilight Music Festival and The Key’s very own Philly Showcase at MilkBoy, now we have the eighth annual Penn Museum’s Summer Nights weekly concert series.
Kicking off the series will be The Mid East Ensemble on June 21st. Led by renowned percussionist Joe Tayoun, the group features beautiful arrangements of classical and folk Arabic, Turkish, and Armenian music. Performances in the weeks to follow include the eclectic blend of jazz, punk and blues from West Philadelphia Orchestra, the 1920’s jazz stylings of Red Hot Ramblers, the funky NOLA soul of Zydeco-A-Go-Go, the breezy Brazilian jazz of Ensemble Novo and many more.
The concerts will take place every Wednesday from 5 – 8 pm in the Penn Museum Stoner Courtyard for an admission fee of $10, while admission is free for PennCard holders, ID-holding Penn Medicine and CHOP employees, Penn Museum Members, and children under 6 years old.
In addition to experiencing some awesome live music, admission also includes other cultural and art activities, such as access to the museum for gallery tours and an outdoor craft station for the youngins.
