Local jazz outfit Chelsea Reed and the Fair Weather Five shared a new album recently titled Spreadin’ Rhythm Around, and they’re not lying. The LP lives up to the title with ten swing-filled, slinky tunes.
While each track takes on its own distinct persona, bandleader Chelsea Reed’s vocals string together the tales with her smokey, sultry vocals. “Pastrami on Rye” is a six-minute long epic of a mysterious woman with a dangerous backstory; “Too Close for Comfort” dances snappily and swankily on; and sparkly piano shines in “Mean to Me,” the woeful blues track lamenting a lover’s cruelty.
Listen to these standouts and more from Spreadin’ Rhythm Around below, then go on dance all old-fashioned like.
