SPORTS returns with a raging, live-wire party in new track, “Making It Right”

As my self-sabotaging, Cleveland Browns fans of a family gear up for another depressing football season, I’ll be over here taking part in a much more delightful and spunky kind of sports. I’m talking about the simply-named-yet-also-confusing-because-of-the-simplicity-of-the-naming band: the Philly DIY four-piece, SPORTS.

As the college punks have now graduated, it seems that their sound has too, as we hear a tight straightforwardness in their just released track, “Making It Right.” This thankfully doesn’t mean that the angst has matured, however — that’s still rightfully kicking as the jam opens ferociously with vocalist Carmen Perry announcing, “I’m not really in here / I’m just waiting ’til the coast is clear.”

Clocking in at just a minute and forty-four seconds, the remainder of the track rides off this buzzing energetic jolt and never slows down, save a brief steadiness that just begs for a sea of slow head-nods; then punctuating itself with a Palm-eqsue riff. But just as soon, eager drums spark up the live-wire once again for a wonderfully snafu-filled party of a send-off.

The track is the first taste of the band’s 7″ split with San-Fran’s Plush, which will be available in full on October 20th via Father/Daughter Records.
