PREMIERE: Versatile vocalist Jordan Brown teases upcoming EP with new track “Goodbye”
After collaborating with RJD2 on the track “Peace of What” for RJD2’s 2016 album Dame Fortune, Jordan Brown has come out with a promising single for his own upcoming EP. Brown is a soul singer at the core and “Goodbye” really highlights his technically sound vocals and his keen ability to seamlessly mix traditional R&B sounds with neo-soul instrumentals. Brown and his producer Kayin utilize a smooth, chopped up sax riff to accompany soothing, yet somber vocals in a heart-tingling track about love lost.
In 2015, Brown was the featured vocalist on RJD2 and STS’ self-titled album and it became clear that Brown is very comfortable working with live instrumentals as well as traditional sampling. Brown’s solo work is a great snapshot of the state of R&B today because it overlays more trap-based drum beats with heavy jazz segments and soul-based vocal samples. The lyrical content on “Goodbye” centers around the difficulties in getting over past relationships, religion, as well as civil rights. The release date for Brown’s upcoming EP is TBD, but stay tuned for more on this talented Philly vocalist.
