Power Animal wraps us in a buzzing electric blanket of comfort with “Light Elating Everything”
The last time we heard from Keith Hampson’s experimental lo-fi project, Power Animal, it was breathing as a solo entitiy. Now, Power Animal is back, and though the upcoming material is the most personal Hampson has been, he’s enlisted the help of friends for a move back to full-band territory, which comes to fruition in the album, Good Wind Pt. 1.
Set for a Nov. 10th release date via the band’s charity label Human Kindness Overflowing, today we hear the beautiful first track titled, “Light Elating Everything.”
Written over the course of two years, the songs on the album weave an autobiographical narrative on loss and mental illness. Digging and picking away at a more vulnerable and intimate space, these tracks were created as a therapeutic, private practice for Hampson.
But thankfully, these tracks aren’t staying tucked away, as Hampson shared the songs with a close group of friends and family, who encouraged and inspired Hampson to complete the album. Those friends– Meg Gouda, Chris Clark and Matt Hampson — then expanded their support in an even more literal sense by backing Hampson as supporting members of Power Animal’s current four-piece lineup.
This therapeutic nature is two-fold on “Light Elating Everything” as listeners experience the ambient, soothing soundscapes that Hampson so intricately creates; where buzzing electricity bounces between each headphone in a lulling hug of static and whirrs.
Listen to the song below, then give what you can and grab a download, as half of the proceeds from the Bandcamp track will benefit The Emergent Fund, which is an organization that launched in the wake of the 2016 election to support grassroots movements in marginalized communities.
You can catch a double dosage of record releases on November 17th between Power Animal and Friendship at Everybody Hits, along with Tall Friend and Free Cake For Every Creature.
