The Kindred Presents variety show might just be the best live music event in the city
On Monday, November 20th, beloved Philly Soul duo Kindred The Family Soul, will host the latest installment of their Kindred Presents weekly series at South Philly’s famed venue and Soul Food restaurant, Warmdaddy’s. Putting a creative spin on the traditional live music format, Kindred Presents is staged variety show style, with the hosts Aja Graydon Dantzler & Fatin Dantzler conducting live interviews with guests, as well as energizing performances from a veritable who’s who of Jazz and R&B acts as well as a variety of poets and activists.
This week’s installment will feature British R&B/Funk legends Loose Ends featuring Jane Eugene. Their 1984 hit “Hanging on String” stormed the U.K. and U.S. charts with it’s infectious melody and slick electronic beat. The song remains a classic, with DJs still playing it at Barbeques, Block Parties and clubs 30+ years after its release.

Philly Soul & House music songstress Lady Alma will also be joining the proceedings. A treasure of Philadelphia’s music scene, her powerful and sophisticated vocal and writing talents to countless house, R&B and future Soul cuts, including 4Hero’s dancefloor smash “Hold It Down”, a watershed moment in London’s brilliant, short-lived-but-possibly-resurging Broken Beat movement in the early 2000s.
With a consistently great lineup (previous guests include Musiq Soulchild, Bahamadia, Bilal, PJ Morton etc.) an ace house band, in-depth interviews and Warmdaddy’s seriously mind-blowing menu of Soulfood dishes, Kindred Presents might just be the best live music event in the city.
