Dreamswell is still a fairly new project, but they’re already back with their second EP — fittingly titled Act 2. And if you’re familiar with some of the band members’ other projects — like Hemming and Madalean Gauze — Dreamswell’s deep and haunting sound may take you by surprise (in a good way).

Act 2 gives us three new tracks to savor, from the eerie single “Temporary” to the fuzzy and heavy “Naive” to the seven-minute closer “Buried.” The doom rockers balance out their brooding sound and avoid total gloom with their airy vocals and smooth, cascading melodies. It’s the kind of music that leaves you just unsettled enough to listen over and over again, trying to make sense of the band’s building storm.

Check out the video for “Temporary,” the EP’s single, here and listen to Act 2 in full below via Bandcamp.

Dreamswell will celebrate the release of Act 2 this Sunday, Jan. 28, with a headlining set at the Black Dog Gallery Planned Parenthood benefit at Boot & Saddle. Aster More, Katie Jo Knaub and Haunted Homes also play, and art from 20 local artists will be featured. Head on over to the event’s Facebook page for more information.
