Jan 26 in Music History: John Lennon writes & records “Instant Karma,” Simon and Garfunkel release Bridge Over Troubled Water
1934 – Formerly home to burlesque shows, The Apollo Theater in Harlem becomes a music venue.
1956 – At Decca Records’ Nashville studios, Buddy Holly makes his first official recording at Decca Records’ Nashville studios. He lays down his debut single, “Blue Days, Black Nights.”
1966 – When Paul Jones of Manfred Mann falls ill, The Animals’ Eric Burdon covers vocal duties at this evening’s concert at the Marquee in London.
1968 – Pink Floyd play their first gig without Syd Barrett at Southampton University. They are supported by Tyrannosaurus Rex, later to be renamed T Rex.
1970 – John Lennon writes and records “Instant Karma” in one day, calling in Phil Spector to produce the song.
1970 – Two classic albums are released: Simon & Garfunkel – Bridge Over Troubled Water and Chicago – Chicago II.
